Somehow, between scene stalwarts the Riverboat Gamblers and High Tension Wires, punk daredevil Mike Wiebe has found time for another side project. Paired with the J Church rhythm section of bassist Ben Snakepit and drummer Chris Pfeffer, Ghost Knife offers a leaner, looser setting for Wiebe’s hand-grenade hooks (“Omnipotent,” “The Lightning Test”). The wicked surf riff of “Soft Bullets” and dreamy, near-shoegaze “Basic Fort” break promising new ground. ***
