File under Most Ridiculous Cease and Desist Ever. This local roots-rock act, fronted by David Beck and Paul Cauthen, used to be called Beck & Cauthen until Beck (“Loser”) insisted the band change its name. The duo changed its name to Sons of Fathers in September, which delayed the release of this solid debut a month, but rest assured: It’s worth the wait, ridiculousness notwithstanding. Pure Texicana with Lloyd Maines’ seal of approval (he contributes pedal steel and Dobro), standouts include “Flatland,” matching laconic harmonies with a driving honky-tonk rhythm, and the similarly propulsive, finger-picked title track. The bluesy “Ruthless” offers a heartwarming expression of masculine regret. This is country music as Texan as chicken-fried steak. (CD release: Saturday, Nov. 26, the Scoot Inn)
