Like San Saba County and the Thrift Store Cowboys, Trey Brown and Mission Dorado tackle Southwestern soundscapes with aplomb. Brown’s dusky vision lacks the spark to enrapture, however; too many times he relies on Americana clichés like windy deserts and lonely midnights, while his reedy vocals remain sleepy where urgency would be welcome. On “Careful What I’m Leavin’ Behind,” one Tim Hardin-inflected bright spot, Brown offers a glimmer of promise.
