The Great Nostalgic
Former Laughing cohort Abram Shook manages to sound alternatively like all three members of Swan Lake (Spencer Krug, Dan Bejar, and Carey Mercer) on the Great Nostalgic’s eponymous debut. A sprawling and bombastic narrative, the album seethes with melodrama (“Fire Brigade,” “Fall River Dream”) and carnival turns (“Young Lovers,” “The Kingdom”), calming only for Pink Nasty duet “The Letter Opener.”
