DJ Jester the Filipino Fist & Ernest Gonzales

Get Busy

Only San Antonio-based DJ Jester – aka G. Michael Pendon – could slather a dopey grin across your wallflower mug within the first 30 seconds of what is, essentially, a 33-minute document of his sporadic, live residency gig, Get Busy, minus the night, the crowd, and the Beauty Bar’s packed ‘n’ tacky dance floor. You’d have to be Ian Curtis not to shake it as the opening accordion strains of a conjunto bop almost immediately give way to Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is in the Heart” and from there flow seamlessly into and out of New Order’s “Blue Monday,” the Monkees’ “Steppin’ Stone,” and Billy Joel’s “Movin’ Out.” Marrying Primus’ “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” to Reservoir Dogs theme “Stuck in the Middle With You” may be madder than Michael Madsen’s straight-razor fetish, but it’s hella fun even if you don’t kick it ironic style.
