Meryll

Happened (Esotype)

Following up 2005’s You’ve Got Cousins, Meryll’s second LP wraps denser textures around Andrew Hernandez’s distinctive high pitch. Art Silva’s axe splits the difference between Explosions in the Sky’s heavy crescendos and 1980s shoegaze, soundtracking the late-night teen nostalgia of the lyrics as songs like “Lydia in the Cornfield” and “Hemlock Football” drift through hazy, half-remembered childhood scenes.
