Where the genres meet, Shortfilm goes haywire. Mythical Beast, the local fourpiece’s debut, is a schizophrenic trapped in a labyrinth, volleying rock for jam and jazz for emo, and never quite knowing which alley he’s in. It’s a mess of words and rhythms, but Mythical Beast is a perfect jumping-off point for a band of juveniles searching for the right medication.
