Pirate Love

Black Vodoun Space Blues (Kong Tiki)

Wherever he is, Lux Interior wears a very wry smile. Following in the footsteps of the Cramps, Oslo’s 7-year-old sixpiece Pirate Love revs up some serious garage reverb. Beginning with “Shake It,” Black Vodoun Space Blues takes a galloping romp through the seven stages of feedback (“Is this a question of low morale?!” demands central screamer David Al Dajani). “Sick of You,” drenched in cold sweat, could be addressed to a junky roommate, a cheating lover – or both. Fair warning: Anybody who dares sleep through clap-happy “Slumber Blues” is likely to dream that the Jesus & Mary Chain are shooting up in the next room. The raw power doesn’t even let up for the Lynch-like atmospherics of “Death Trip” and “Skin Deep.” When “Laughing Gas” arrives, the hatches had better be battened down. On it goes with sundry screams and other vocal ejaculations ensuring that various fuzz-drenched, organ-driven vamps arrive lubricated. (Fri., 10pm, Rusty Spurs.)
