Binary Audio Misfits

B.A.M.! (Platinum)

As the needle falls into the vinyl groove of the debut LP from Binary Audio Misfits, an English-speaking man in the left channel and a French woman in the right break it down simultaneously: “From Toulouse, France, the rock band EXP, also known as Expérience. From Austin, Texas, members of the hip-hop crew the Word Association. Together, they are Binary Audio Misfits.” The cross-continental collaboration spawned on MySpace as the groups swapped files for a single song that blossomed into B.A.M.! With uncompromising backpack raps over crushing rock tracks, the LP plays like a lost companion disc to the seminal Judgement Night soundtrack. On “Brain Drain Generation” and “Get Loud or Get Dyin,” the Austin MCs spit in the image of Aesop Rock while their cross-pond partners scream live industrial backdrops. The project is remarkably cohesive and exceeds the measure of any collaboration; the sum total is better than the individual parts. (Thu., 8pm, Club 115; Fri., 1am, Wave Rooftop.)
