Lymbyc Systym

Love Your Abuser Remixed (Koch)

Instrumental indie rock remix albums are a rite of passage. For Austin/Phoenix-based duo Lymbyc Systym, comprising brothers Michael and Jared Bell, the honorary process rightfully follows last year’s stellar Love Your Abuser and includes contemporaries like San Marcos’ This Will Destroy You and Ninja Tune artist Daedelus, who molds closer “… So We Can Sleep” after his own image. Comparable to ATX mainstay My Education’s Moody Dipper, the One AM Radio emphasizes the line of mariachi trumpets in “Astrology Days” over a Kid A-era electronic beatscape, while the Album Leaf strips down “Fall Bicycle” into a sparse, tranquil bed of vintage synths and xylophone. Lymbyc Systym reworks its own “Birds” and “Idle Wires,” the former morphing into a scrambled and cinematic sprawl of laptop post-rock, while the latter’s piecemeal, magnetic ambience sounds like the missing link between Four Tet and Et Ret. Welcome to the machine. (Friday, March 14, Emo’s Jr., 8pm.)
