Rae Sremmurd

Sremmlife (Interscope)

Closest comparison might be the Backstreet Boys. The two teen brothers from Mississippi who make up Rae Sremmurd couldn’t be more cuddly. Bandanas, Kanye denim, standing five-feet-five-inches and maybe 100 pounds soaking wet; you’ll crush on them if you grew up on narcotized Southern rap. They broke out last year on the back of the sparse, swaggy “No Type,” and mantra-creating “No Flex Zone,” both of which anchor Interscope debut Sremmlife. In a world where even Lil Wayne can’t get an album out on time, it’s a wonder that non-singles like the low-res “Unlock the Swag” and squeaky “Up Like Trump” bang as hard as they do. Standout “This Could Be Us” finds the boys taming their flexes into a genuine, panty-tossing ladies’ jam. It’s one-note, sure, but we’re rooting for Rae Sremmurd. (Thu., 12:30am, Bar 96)
