Jorma Kaukonen

Ain’t in No Hurry (Red House)

A career lasting more than 50 years, Jorma Kaukonen, 74, could be going through the motions. Except there’s nothing remotely faked or suspect about Ain’t in No Hurry. He teams with Larry Campbell, best known for producing and serving as bandleader for Levon Helm’s latter day work, and their meeting of the minds develops into an album that’s sweet, funky, and among Kaukonen’s most listenable. Sultry opener “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out” could be an acoustic Hot Tuna outtake, with Campbell playing the fiddle while nodding in the general direction of Papa John Creach. Tuna/Jefferson Airplane bandmate Jack Casady shows up on laid-back country rocker “Bar Room Crystal Ball,” and mandolin player Barry Mitterhoff, who rounds out Hot Tuna these days, joins in throughout. Jorma endures. (8pm, Lucky Lounge)
