Omega La La (Sin Duda)

Rubblebucket’s self-titled debut was snubbed. It had little buzz or recognition and remained an undeserving eternal sleeper lost in the ashes of 2009. In what might be considered the ultimate comeback, the bouncy, pop perfection of these Brooklynites’ sophomore effort, Omega La La, stockpiles endlessly joyful compositions coined into their own genre on the blogosphere: Yes Wave. That means musicians with serious musical prowess creating shamelessly catchy music. Though Omega‘s rich in instrumentation, Kalmia Traver has a delightfully off-kilter voice that listeners will spend a good deal of the time figuring out. Regardless, her robust, calming alto counters the frantic quirks of the eightpiece band backing her. “Silly Fathers” shines the brightest, heavy on the horn section and an inspired call to the dance floor.
