Yeah, yeah, tardy to the party, but this video made me and dozens of other folks laugh on Facebook this morning. What was intriguing though was the ubiquity of South by Southwest references. The phrase not in here is, “I’m having a showcase at my house.”

And it’s not that you can’t have a non-SXSW event, it’s that your event must go through the same ropes for permits and sound.

Obviously permits are a nightmare for even longtime clubowners – remember Bob Geldof nearly being shut out of his Jovita’s show last year? This Thursday, Jan. 19, 5-8pm, AMP (Austin Music People) presents an open house at the old Austin City Limits studios (2504 Whitis Ave.), with City of Austin staff on hand to answer questions about the permit process.

Six city departments will be participating including Music, Fire, Austin Police, Transportation, Planning & Development Review, and Special Events. Punch and pie provided for attendees.
