Rock Opera Soundtrack
(Crashcam)
Like most soundtrack albums these days, this ain’t the score from the locally produced punk/ stoner extravaganza, it’s a buncha loud, trashy rock heard throughout the film as performed by the cast and others. Oh, wait. In this case, that is the score of this particular flick. Doesn’t matter one way or another, because it’s as obvious from watching the film as listening to the disc that half the producers’ goals was to get as much of their favorite local punkrawk jammed together in one place, and as a sampler, it works as good as any yer gonna find. While the songs picked aren’t always inarguably the “best” of a certain local band, many are what you’d call signature tunes nonetheless, as in the case of the Pocket FishRmen’s “We Kill Evil,” Ed Hall’s “Luke Flukenstock,” and the Butthole Surfers’ inimitable “Kuntz.” Add necessary noise from Squat Thrust, Nashville Pussy, and El Flaco, plus newer names like the Crack Pipes, Voltage, and Titz (plus Los Pinkys to throw the whole shebang for a loop) to come up with a total of 23 tracks, and you probably won’t mind too much that half the content here is already available on the bands’ own albums.![]()
