It was mighty comfy at the Continental Club last Saturday night, with Larry Lange’s Chicano Soul Revue playing to a full house. I’m impressed when anyone can get a decent crowd out these days and here’s a horn-band lineup featuring Mexican vocalists from San Antonio and not a seat in the house. It was a particularly good trick with the Arc Angels over at Antone’s, also pulling a full house.
Folks who enjoyed those shows will want to add Ginny’s Little Longhorn to their Saturday night calendar because the legendary rock & roll honky-tonkers Teddy & the Talltops are reuniting this weekend. The timing couldn’t be better because even though gas is cheap, times are tough and a big dose of Austin’s barroom mix masters of blues, country, rockabilly, and Texas-style garage rock will go a long way to greasing up the holidays. Ted Roddy, Joe Dickens, Speedy Sparks, Marty Muse, and Mike Buck rev it up around 9pm at the best little honky tonk on Burnet Road.
