The Shovel vs the Howling Bones

Ray Wylie Hubbard is listed as co-producer with George Reiff on Lincoln Durham’s debut full-length, and it rattles and creaks just like Hubbard’s discs. Sadly, Durham’s vocals recall Ryan Bingham’s rasp to the point of distraction and there’s enough Black Crowes Southern rock vibe to call originality into question. Straight-up ballad “Clementine” illustrates Durham’s compositional abilities, which are otherwise buried among the hubbub.
