Black Sabbath

Symptom of the Universe: 1970-1978 (Warner Bros./Rhino) While the term “heavy metal” was allegedly coined to describe Led Zeppelin, it was Black Sabbath who created a sound that was heavy beyond description. The 2-CD Symptom of the Universe collects 29 remastered tracks from the band’s first eight albums, with original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. The first disc is a Sabbath fans’ wet dream, with such primo early material as “Black Sabbath” and “Into the Void.”
