Ocean Colour Scene

The Best of Ocean Colour Scene (Ark 21) They were never as big as the Gallagher brothers would’ve liked, and they never cracked the U.S. at all, but the Lennon/McCartney lilt of “The Day We Caught the Train” and the Davies brothers stomp of “Crazy Lowdown Ways” proves this Birmingham quartet sure knew how to wrench a grin out of even the most British of mugs. Bested by Blur and Brit-pop every step of the way, OCS in compilation sounds and feels like a great roaring flashback to ’68 pop-central Merseyside. John and George are gone, but OCS lingers on.
