I Turn My Camera On

Syncing up with the grand opening of the new Alamo Drafthouse later this month, the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture is exhibiting concert images taken in 1974 at Sixth Street’s Ritz Theater by Austinite Sammy Mack Royal, along with dozens of show posters from concerts by Willie Nelson, Doug Sahm, and Little Richard, among others. The show opens Saturday with a special reception beginning at 7pm. Across town, the Wyndham Garden Hotel (3401 S. I-35) unveils the Austin Music Project, a free, permanent multimedia gallery exhibit honoring 50 essential local musicians of the last 40 years, ranging from Randy “Biscuit” Turner and Daniel Johnston to W.C. Clark and Blues Boy Hubbard.
