This is our fifth consecutive year at South by Southwest. The first time we came to Austin was in 2008. That first time flooded our hearts.
You can feel the powerful passion for music coming from Austin and the energy in the air, thick as it is – almost touchable. All these feelings come together with the fact that SXSW has become our point of reunion with old friends and bands from everywhere – bands that we meet on the road while touring all year long in Europe, the states, and South America. This mix makes it one of our highest moments of the year and the beginning of our year on the road.
In Europe, we spend many months touring in the van, from the sun to the snow, from the beach to the mountains, crossing cities from old to modern. Dreams, roads, and guitars. Every year, coming to Austin is unique and special.
This one we’re arriving at after being submerged for a whole week of recording sessions at Water Music Recording Studios in Hoboken, N.J., with producer/sound magician John Agnello. The week was very high in energy and creativity. Recording consisted of our immersion into David Bowie’s album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, a disc and artist that means so much for Capsula.
Turned into Bowie’s martians, we took the plane from NYC to Chicago. On the plane from Chicago to Austin, we started feeling the Austin atmosphere. For a band coming from Bilbao, Spain, SXSW has been the place where we’ve made lots of friends to spread the sound and love for guitars, albums, and awesome live music, onstage and down in front of the stage.
We have seen lots of great bands playing in small venues, face to face, receiving their full energy, from icons to new bands. And we also love to be the band onstage ready to give you our wild diamond of sounds. Now that our album In the Land of Silver Souls (see “SXSW Records Thursday,” March 16) has been released in America, you will see us much more often touring in the States.
