Aughts pop-punk cover band Jimmy Eat Brisket’s Brisketfest event centers around a really simple premise: listen to several bands throughout the day while chowing on great barbecue crafted by various vendors. This year is the second edition of the event, and Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient KG BBQ will be throwing down. Performers include alt-rock band Chancla Fight Club.

Frederick Boom

Saturday 8, HowMuch?! Studios

Austin-based rapper Frederick Boom previews his forthcoming album, Five Nights at Frederick’s, with a listening party. The Illinois native’s next full-length will be released on August 29. Performers at HowMuch?! include She23 and a DJ set from frequent collaborator Norman BA$E.

Tuesday 11, Moody Center

Expect a night doused in R&B nostalgia at Moody Center. Ne-Yo broke out in 2006 with chart-topper “So Sick,” an earworm about a dude’s annoyance with hearing happy songs on the radio that remind him of his ex. The Grammy-winning singer released a country-influenced album this year titled Highway 79. For those who want to sing along to more Billboard hits built on apparent sadness, Akon joins the party with throwbacks “Locked Up” and “Lonely.”
