Houston rapper Monaleo was originally set to perform at Emo’s earlier this year, but unexpectedly had to cancel that show and other sold-out dates on her headlining tour due to an emergency surgery. Her solid sophomore effort, Who Did the Body, touches on a variety of topics and features an unexpected take on old-school rap storytelling (“Spare Change”). She’ll perform at Moody Center as an opener for R&B singer Summer Walker.

Friday 19, Hole in the Wall

Technical wordsmith Chucky Blk plays his final show in Austin for the foreseeable future before moving to Chicago. He’ll play cuts from forthcoming full-length A Homecoming of Sorts (A Pile of Dead Me’s), which should arrive by the end of the month. Supporting him are Free Hamze and Kardinal Bloo of FreeBloo&theFreak, e.artifact, and rapper lulamoon on the 1s and 2s.

Black Fo’k: A Juneteenth Kickback 

Sunday 21, Pershing Hall

Local Juneteenth celebrations roll into Sunday with this event thrown by Auntie’s House. Hurricane Chris (“A Bay Bay”) and rising Austin-based rapper Lynn perform. Kay Cali, DJ DK, and Jos Tha DJ keep vibes simmering throughout.
