The paucity of affordable, centralized housing for Austin musicians is a growing problem Chronicle news writer Amy Smith reported on via the beleaguered Wilson Street compound. Good news: HOME, Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers.

Though Wilson St. went the way of modern development, HOME – namely, Deb Fleming, Sarah Brown, Nancy Coplin, Marcia Ball, agent Nancy Fly, Carolyn Wonderland, Denise Boudreaux, Ruthie Foster, and Shelley King, as well as Ms. Susan Antone continuing the course set by her benevolence of the blues, Clifford Antone – has picked up the ball.

As a collective that’s witnessed the local housing struggle firsthand, its aim to take a chunk out of the problem begins by securing shelter for Austin jewel Miss Lavelle White. At 83, the acclaimed singer and Saxon Pub regular has little in the way of resources, so an initiative has been born. If nothing else, Austin should be a place to which the musical greats can retire in peaceful harmony.
