After nearly 30 minutes of technical snafus, Hollywood hipsters J*Davey unleashed a mix of spaced-out funk grooves and glitchy hip-hop beats to a thin Stage 4 crowd. Backed by live drums, bass, and guitar, the duo of singer Jack Davey and producer Brook D’Leau have spent time with Prince in the headphones, and the Purple One would surely approve of Davey’s onstage writhing and sensual songcraft. Rocking a giant fro-hawk, long feather earring, and an ultrashort shimmering dress, Davey teased that maybe she’ll let you touch it on “Dollar or More” and echoed Erykah Badu on “Lil Big Heads” as D’Leau mashed the keys sporting beachwear and a leather Snoopy flying cap. The crew chased Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” down the hole and got people moving and chuckling with a silly self-aware anthem: “I really like to dance; I really like to dance in my supertight pants! And when it gets too hot, I wear my short shorts!”
