Franki Chan/The Toxic Avenger

Franki Chan and the Toxic Avenger have established a rapport from touring together, so it was no surprise when Chan showed up onstage an hour early to let the crowd know their two sets would be meshed into one extended mix-up. That was about all you heard from Franki and Toxic, who both let their music do the talking by splicing together two hours of house and trance to go with choice cuts from Rage Against the Machine, AC/DC, and Cypress Hill. Chan’s demeanor stayed laid-back during the time originally slated for Tox. He ducked away for a smoke with the camera guy, shot some footage of the jiving crowd, and bolted from the stage entirely for a beer. His proper set took off with the bottled chaos of an L.A. nightclub, Toxic playing supreme hypeman until the levee broke and the stage turned into a jam-packed dance party. Chan and Tox couldn’t have looked more pleased to have caused this get-down.
