Here’s an inescapably dumb truth about rock & roll shared among those of us skidding around the 50-year mark: getting old sucks. Just ask Evan Johns. Johns is originally from Virgina, but when Texas called in the 1980s, he responded.

Johns brought with his guitar and style lethal enough to qualify his instrument as a weapon of mass destruction. His band Evan Johns & the H-Bombs laid waste to nearly every stage he set foot one, with a bombastic sound fusing rockabilly swagger and Texas muscle. Johns recorded on Jungle, Fundamental, Alternative Tentacles, and Ryko among others and was nominated for a Grammy for his Big Guitars From Texas recording.

But life doesn’t read credentials when it starts dealing out black cards, and when Johns found himself in need of help, his friends took over the game. Bruce Sheehan (Treasured Tracs! Jungle Records!), Kristen Anderson, and SausTex Records’ Jeff Smith are donning their host hats for a benefit on Saturday, November 13 at the Longbranch Inn.
