Conspicuously timed with ongoing Cactus Gate scandal and this weekend’s Austin Outhouse reunion, Super Alright and Dell Lounge partnered for a video series on Austin’s lost venues with a modern soundtrack provided by up-and-coming local bands.
Recalling the Chronicle’s own Dead Club Crawl, each episode pairs an aural history, provided by a venue representative, with a live performance by the scene’s local (albeit questionable) successors, like the Brothers & Sisters’ cosmic country filling the parking lot of what once was the Armadillo World Headquarters as former proprietor Eddie Wilson looks on. While not incredibly detailed, it’s a thought-provoking snapshot of this city’s “development” and works well as a crash course music tutorial. Check it out.
