DAWA, Diversity Awareness and Wellness in Action, is hiring a venue manager for its headquarters at 916 Springdale. The BIPOC arts organization, founded by Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone, seeks someone with three to five years of venue booking and client prospecting experience to organize, oversee, and promote events. The hybrid position pays $30 an hour for 30 hours a week. Applications are open at dawaheals.org until Dec. 1.
Torchy’s Tacos on the Drag closes on Nov. 19 after 16 years as a “Damn Good” UT-Austin staple. The business’ lease at 2801 Guadalupe expires this month and the company decided not to renew due to “changes in the area,” The Daily Texan reported. Morgan Hendrix, Torchy’s PR manager, told the student newspaper there were a “handful of development plans” on Guadalupe that impacted the decision, but didn’t elaborate further. Earlier this year, the Wheatsville Co-Op located at 3101 Guadalupe announced a similar closure slated for 2026, citing parking and delivery issues it expects from Project Connect.
Jambaloo, a new free-for-all-ages music festival, kicks off in the DFW area next February. Spread across four venues – Andy’s Bar in Denton, Tulips in Fort Worth, and Club Dada and Ferris Wheelers in Dallas – this worth-the-drive showcase, running Feb. 1-8, features local DIY artists and some pretty impressive national names, including Asheville twanger MJ Lenderman, NYC’s Wild Pink, and Austin’s own Lomelda.
