“Definitely more tame and chill this year, not really Chaos per se,” emailed Chaos in Tejas promoter Timmy Hefner from New York recently. Could’ve fooled us. Naturally, a fraction of the crust punk, death metal, and DJ-oriented experimentalism going viral after Memorial Day weekend every spring can’t constitute the total CiT experience, so the local booker’s dubbed May 28-June 1 “A Weekend in Austin.” From Russian and Chilean Satanism (Pseudogod, Diabolical Messiah) to San Franciscan songcraft (Kelley Stoltz), the pit’s shrunk for sure, but it’s no less of a dome-ripping rush.
