SHIVA’S HEADBAND

Classics Vol. 1 (Moontower)

Compiled over a 22-year period through 1993, this is Z-102 avec fiddle,
sans commercials. It’s the perfect gift for all those folks who never
quite let go of the Armadillo — though if you give it to a relative, you risk
hearing all those pot-and-nacho stories well into your dotage. —
Christopher Gray

BOOGIESTICK

Buffalo Ride (Agony Forest)

Anyone up for some Southern-fried psychotic road music? Just say Boogiestick.
This nine-year-old trio dishes out the goods with a pleasant lack of
distortion, quick pacing and a hint of desert mania that recalls the early Meat
Puppets. I could do without the funky stuff, but those are probably the
crowd-pleasers. — Greg Beets

REESE

Locomotive Boogie (RRP)

You can hear Jimi Hendrix in every note on this album. Don’t get too excited,
though; Reese is a wonderfully accurate sound-alike, but there ain’t an ounce
of originality here. Allow for its being a little blues-heavy, and Reese is to
Hendrix what Kingdom Come was to Zeppelin. — Michael Bertin
