The leak may have finally been fixed, but the effects of the BP’s oil spill will linger for years to come. Here are three different benefits for the Gulf coast that are not only stepping up to the plate, but should also get down and dirty.
7 Walkers’ Papa Mali and the Los Bayou Ramblers headline a benefit for the the Greater New Orleans Foundation Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund and the Gulf Restoration Network tonight, Friday, July 23, in the parking lot at the Hotel San José (1316 S. Congress). The debut collaboration between SoCo’s Steve Wertheimer, Liz Lambert, and chef Larry McGuire, the event features a shrimp and crawfish boil dinner for only $10, 6-10pm.
The following night, Learning Secrets is throwing the Black Gold Disco: A Benefit for Endangered Species Coalition at Beauty Bar. The dance party, with a suggested donation of $10, features Bodytronix and Candi & the Strangers, plus Birds Barbershop is throwing in an extra dollar for every Lone Star ordered.
Once you catch your breath, Mohawk hosts Soul Happening vs. Second Sunday Sock Hop, an old school vinyl battle with six DJs scratching “the rawest of R&B, the funkiest of funk and the sweetest of soul 45s,” on Friday, July 30. All proceeds benefit the the Greater New Orleans Foundation and Gulf Restoration Network.
