Tim Buckley

The Best of (Rhino)

The short trajectory of Tim Buckley’s life was lightninglike, and you know what they say about lightning and jars. From the soft paisley folk of “Aren’t You the Girl” and “Song for Janie” on his self-titled 1966 debut and the theatric, incense-whiffing follow-up “Goodbye and Hello,” wrapped in Buckley’s androgynous vocals, right down to the jazzy “Strange Feelin'” on the third of his opening trio of LPs, it’s positive and negative charges together. For fans, it’s a sure bet. For those familiar with him as Jeff Buckley’s dad who tragically overdosed at 28, it may be a letdown in the shadow of all the mythology.
