Silversun Pickups

Sunday, Sept. 28, Zilker Park

Sound woes plagued the Silversun Pickups from the start of their set, making the California fourpiece sound as though it were playing underwater, the only clear noise the occasional raspy, rock & roll yowl of lead singer Brian Aubert. Nevertheless, the band thrashed away on the big screen, the crowd cheering the familiar though muted chords of such quasi-hits as “Rusted Wheel,” “Little Lover’s so Polite,” and “Lazy Eye.” Aubert apologized for the heat, the dust, and the beach balls, when what he should have been sorry for was that the sound techs didn’t stop the show to get things worked out. One bit of good news, though: SSPU will be joining Band of Horses on tour this fall.
