Saturday, Sept. 27, Zilker ParkWith his songs ingrained in anyone listening to pop music over the last 40 years, John Fogerty could easily play his tunes the way they’re remembered. Instead, his set list made it apparent he’s trying to reinvent himself to keep things interesting for all involved. One thing’s for sure: Creedence Clearwater Revival never sounded as big as what Fogerty brought to Saturday’s stage. Drummer Kenny Aronoff was partially responsible for that, as were the four guitars out in front of him. While heavy on Creedence, the set featured a couple of tunes from Fogerty’s recent Revival, while throwing in a couple of deep cuts, including “Midnight Special” and “Keep on Chooglin’.” By closing the night with abbreviated takes on “Fortunate Son” and “Proud Mary,” the performance felt rushed, and though it would have been nice if he’d gone on for another hour or two, no one left feeling cheated.
