710 Red River is listed for sale for $1.8 million on commercial real estate website LoopNet. Last updated on April 14, the listing says the building, which houses the dive bar and music venue Valhalla, has been on the market since October of 2025.
Valhalla co-owner Seth Levy, who opened the club in 2010 with Elysium owner John Wickham, tells the Chronicle several people have looked at the building, but next steps for ownership, and the future of the laid-back stage, remain uncertain.
“It’s too bad we didn’t have $2 million,” Levy says. “[The building] was obviously offered to us as well. We just don’t have money.”
Many businesses face slim margins Downtown as property values rise – as do property taxes and insurance rates. Valhalla has long billed itself as a neighborhood bar, emphasizing a chill weekday atmosphere, complete with food service from Marinara Miracles upstairs. It’s become a staple of the Red River Cultural District’s Free Week and Hot Summer Nights lineups and a valuable stage for South by Southwest showcases.
Levy says he knew that current landlord, Brandi McDaniel, had been wanting to eventually sell the property, which she bought in 2013 as a real estate investment. McDaniel did not respond to requests for comment at the time of this publication.
For his part, the bar owner is hoping for a landlord that will allow the tavern to renew its lease, but he hasn’t considered whether or not he and his team will pursue relocation if that doesn’t happen.
“We are kept abreast of each step of the sale process,” he assures the Chronicle via text, stating that the team will navigate the venue’s future as more information is learned. Until a sale is final, it’ll be business as usual around the venue’s iconic circular bar, with local lineups booked this Friday and Saturday night.
