The newest outlet of this increasingly popular Austin restaurant chain seems to be at home among the Triangle eateries. The casual, order-at-the-counter format fits well with the collection of cafes geared toward students, on-the-go professionals, and working families alike. So too does the ultramod, airy space appeal to the urban scenester aesthetic. With its light-filled interior, accented with orange walls and glimmering Space Age decor, the Galaxy certainly looks its name.
Over the past five years, Galaxy Cafe has made a reputation for itself serving simple and homey yet flavorful foodstuffs dominated by fresh salads, fat burgers, and well-crafted sandwiches, all of which can be satisfyingly paired with irresistible sweet potato fries. Breakfasts are also popular here. Flavorful quiches, giant breakfast burritos, and sticky cinnamon rolls are among the offerings that draw crowds.
At the Triangle Galaxy, the owners have rolled out some new menu items. Most of the dinner specials, including a seared yellowfin tuna over couscous ($10.25), a cheese-and-spinach-stuffed portabella mushroom ($9.95), and grilled mahimahi with lemon-caper butter ($9.95), are new. New also to the regular menu are a delectable smoked turkey and brie sandwich on a grilled baguette and a popular Mediterranean meatball sandwich ($7.50). The philosophy underscoring the Galaxy mission is to offer quality ingredients prepared simply and at a reasonable price.
