Like its cousins across town, Baby Acapulco on Lakeshore, one of three locations of this family-run Austin institution, pours a potent award-winning margarita that can hold its own against the restaurant’s fiery Tex-Mex and Mex-Mex creations. Founded in 1981, Baby Acapulco is still going strong, serving mountains of nachos, platters of fajitas, and a dozen different enchiladas. The restaurant’s namesake nachos piled high with grilled shrimp, refried beans, cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, and sour cream make for great happy hour noshing. And the restaurant’s hearty chicken tortilla soup gives you a generous dose of “what’s good for what ails ya’,” packed as it is with shredded chicken, avocado, cheese, and corn tortilla strips and served with rice and warm corn tortillas to boot! Baby’s, as it’s affectionately called by regulars, also offers five kinds of quesadillas and a number of house specials, among them an egg-battered chile relleno, multiple fajita platter combinations, and the muy macho steak and enchilada plate for big appetites.
