Dot’s Place

13805 Orchard Lane, 255-7288

Mon-Fri,11am-2pm

Dot’s Place elevates homestyle cooking to an art form; a meal with two vegetables and bread will leave you dreaming of food for days. Order the fried catfish or daily specials from the menu or take a trip through the bountiful buffet line. Meatloaf, chicken with dressing, beef with gravy, collard greens, and stewed okra represent only a fraction of the changing selections. Most meals cost around $5. Wear baggy clothes; you’ll need extra room after the meal is over.

Rachel Feit is an archaeologist by trade who worked her way through college in kitchens in Chicago and Austin before discovering that dishing up words was more satisfying that dishing up meals. She has been writing about food and restaurants for The Austin Chronicle for more than a decade, but still loves to cook.
