The last time the good folks of NadaMoo dropped off some of their dairy-free ice cream for your sweet-toothed journalistic denizens of the Chronicle wasn’t the first time they’d done that. But all manner of reactionary hell broke loose.
We mean that many of the spoon-wielding newshounds were a bit stunned – because some of us were still innocent back then (like, a couple months ago) – a bit stunned by how good such frozen confections could be.
The most recent time the locally based NadaMoo company sent us a care package was just last week – because they’ve got some new flavors they’re rolling out. Three new flavors, to be precise.
But now, see, at this point we’re all jaded to the idea of vegan ice cream. Yeah, we’re all aloof AF and leaning against walls and smoking cigarettes and talking out the sides of our overeducated journo mouths.
Still, though, after a couple scoops of the Banana Caramel Crunch – a dairy-free banana pudding concoction – and that Peach Cobbler – the sort of stuff that makes you wish you were born in Georgia, just for better braggin’ rights – we were all licking the spoons and grinning.
Because mmmmmm, yeah, it’s good to have some sweet nondairy options for the lactose-intolerant among us … especially when those options also taste good to people who aren’t intolerant of anything. Mind you, “taste good” is a bit of an understatement, especially as regards that peachified version. NadaMoo’s so-called Marshmallow Stardust, on the other hand (the third of the recently released trio of flavors), well … There are those among us who swear it’s a taste they’ve been waiting for for half their lives. But then, those people have always been a little odd, always wearing mismatched socks and doing little victory dances whenever they win at Settlers of Catan, you know?
But tell you what: the Banana Caramel, that Peach Cobbler … Oh, NadaMoo, we appreciate the creamy, coconut milk-based fruits of your sweet labor – and we’ll be looking for you in our grocer’s freezer.
