We’re not sure who makes the decisions about designating days in honor of specific food items, but a national celebration of lasagne sounds fine to us. Some local restaurants are on board with this observance so as they say in Italy: Mangia!

Two of the Mandola’s Italian Market (4301 W. Wm. Cannon, E-1; 12815 Shops Pkwy, Ste. 400) outlets as well as Trattoria Lisina (13308 FM 150 in Driftwood) are offering lasagne specials today. Look for their regular lasagne bolognese with meat sauce and three cheeses,as well as specials of lasagne primavera with sauteed vegetables and three cheeses, or chicken and mushroom lasagne with roasted chicken and two cheeses. Quantities of the two special flavors will be limited, so get a move on!

South Austin’s new Aroma Italian Kitchen & Bar (3403 S. Lamar) in the 704 apartment complex will be whipping up lasagne with pork sausage and ricotta and serving it paired with a free La Casa salad. Get there during happy hour (4-7pm) and also enjoy $1 sparkling wine and half-price pizzas.
