The owners of Kerlin BBQ, Bill and Amelis Kerlin, announced on Thursday that September 10 will be the trailer’s last service.
The Instagram post states, “We were recently notified by our landlord that commercial development of our lot will begin in a few weeks.” Instead of relocating the operation a third time, the Kerlins will shutter the BBQ operation, apart from private catering orders, and focus on its Kerlaches concept at 2505 Webberville Road.
Opened in 2013 at 1700 East Cesar Chavez, Bill Kerlin quietly made a name for himself as a sleeper alternative to the long lines at Franklin BBQ. In fact, Kerlin BBQ was a 2016 Best of Austin Critics Pick for Best Barbecue Without the Wait. His wife, Amelis, is the mastermind behind the rich and delicious brisket-stuffed kerlaches, which became popular enough to warrant their own, separate operation.
Kerlin BBQ has been closed since mid-July for its annual summer break. It will reopen one last time on Saturday, September 10, from 11am “until everything is gone.” </p
