The launch party for the new cookbook Austin Breakfast Tacos by Mando Rayo and Jarod Neece, held at Tamale House East Saturday, was a colossal success.

Hundreds were in attendance, the masses of tacos provided by luminary taco destinations such as Curra’s Grill, Tacodeli, WhataTaco, El Sol y La Luna y Mas, and Tamale House evaporated in record time. The party provided great exposure for the newest Tamale House, a venture of the third generation of the legendary Vasquez family. (Now that I’ve sampled their food, I’ll certainly be back.) After reading selections from the book, Rayo and Neece graciously autographed copies for a long line of taco enthusiasts for hours.

By 5:30pm, there were only a few copies left, and it is very likely that all the books on hand were sold. Rayo and Neece, two of the four contributors to the popular blog Taco Journalism, were invited to write the book by the History Press after establishing themselves as authorities on Austin’s vibrant taco culture.
