The next couple of days offer some great opportunities for Austin
foodies. You can bid on baked goods and cookbooks in an online bake
sale, pick up a free gluten-free pizza at your favorite local Mr.
Gattis outlet, or cruise down to the Long Centers City Terrace for
the first Trailer Food Tuesday, and weve got the scoop.
Family and friends are rallying around four-year-old Cody Brasich of
Marble Falls since his devastating diagnosis of neuroblastoma.
Treatment options have all be exhausted and the family is left with a
mountain of medical bills. His aunt, Stephanie Weaver, otherwise known
in the blogosphere as Recipe Renovator, came up with the idea of an
online bake sale benefit and recruited other food bloggers to help
out. As of July 27, Cookies for Cody boasts a tempting array of baked
goods, gift baskets, and signed cookbooks for sale. Check out photos
of the donated items at www.Facebook.com/reciperenovator and make a
bid. Bidding closes at 5pm Pacific Daylight time on Sunday, August 5,
2012 and winning bidders will donate directly to the family via PayPal
at www.codybrasich.com. Items will be sent to winning bidders once the
donations are made.
Mr. Gatttis is announcing the arrival of gluten-free pizzas on their
menu by giving away one free 12-inch medium 3-topping pizza per
customer order at all participating Austin locations on Tuesday, July
31st. The crusts are made in Austin by Smart Flour Foods in a 100%
gluten-free commercial facility and the restaurants have developed
specific systems and procedures to make sure that each gluten-free
pizza remains that way from the time it is ordered until it is boxed
and cut for delivery to the customer. (For more information about the
procedures, go to www.GattisPizzaAustin.com and click on the gluten
free tab.) To get your gluten-free pizza on July 31st, call 459-2222
and ask for a gluten-free agent.
Austin joins the ranks of cities across the country that offer regular
food truck gatherings with the launch of Trailer Food Tuesdays on the
City Terrace at the Long Center (701 Riverside Drive) on Tuesday, July
31st. The event is the brainchild of Eric Silverstein of the Peached
Tortilla and Yume Burger, Kristen Stacy of Royal Fig Caterings
Seedling Truck, and local trailer food maven Tiffany Harelik. Trailer
Food Tuesdays will take place on the last Tuesday of the month from
July through November and will feature family-friendly entertainment
and live music in addition to food from at least 12 trailers at each
event. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for info on the trailer
line-up.
