The Texas Hill Country: A Food and Wine Lover’s Paradise
by Terry Thompson-AndersonShearer Publishing, 155 pp., $19.95
Aside from being a fabulous, creative chef, Terry Thompson-Anderson is a master of all culinary things Texas. Her love for the food of the Lone Star State is evident in her gorgeous award-winning 2002 book, Texas on the Plate, which includes recipes from all corners of the state complete with cultural influences. Her newest book focuses on the small food and beverage artisans of the Hill Country with equal passion and devotion. The Texas Hill Country is a small treasure for anyone with an affinity for this part of our state. Although the author makes it clear “the book is not meant to be comprehensive” (and indeed, a few personal favorites are missing), she does a remarkable job of presenting a little bit of everything the Hill Country has to offer. From goat-cheese makers to cut-flower growers; wineries and craft-breweries to small-town diners, classy bistros, and wine bars; lavender farms and pick-your-own orchards to family bakeries and organic farmers, foodies will find a wealth of information. Locals like me will find new and exciting places to visit, and the book would be a marvelous gift to Hill Country enthusiasts anywhere.
