Heirloom Cooking With the Brass Sisters

The Brass Sisters were dubbed the “Queens of Comfort Food” in their WGBH Boston PBS special, and it is a mantle they wear with pride. Their first book, Heirloom Baking, was a James Beard finalist, and this September, the Brass Sisters were named by Publishers Weekly as likely to rise to culinary stardom. Avid collectors of handwritten recipes and manuscript cookbooks, the Brass Sisters have made it their mission to rescue forgotten favorites from America’s home-cooking past. Describing their research for Heirloom Cook­ing, Marilynn Brass exclaims, “It’s like we were discovering America!” Swedish meat­balls, Romanian stuffed cabbage, enormous popovers, red velvet cake, bialy bagels, Billion­aire’s Macaroni and Cheese, and glazed corned beef are just a few of the jewels that are rediscovered in this beautifully illustrated book. The Brass Sisters will be signing copies at the Book Festival.
