• The Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo is one of the other big events during Austin’s March Madness. Backyard barbecue-pit masters from around the state compete in their annual Barbecue Cook-Off this weekend on the South Fairgrounds of the Travis County Exposition Center (7311 Decker). Awards will be given in several categories, including “Yardbird,” Best Brisket, Best Rib, and Top Fundraiser, so be sure to carry some cash to donate as you stroll among the cooking rigs, sampling great Texas barbecue. • The Peacock (515 Pedernales, 276-8979, www.peacockaustin.com) is one of the hip, new bars on the Eastside, attracting discriminating patrons with offerings such as their monthly Cuisine de Cocktail evenings, where Executive Chef Deegan McClung of Cissi’s Market presents a menu especially designed to pair with selected cocktails. $60 per person; reservations necessary. Tuesday, March 11, 8pm.

• The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (815 W. 47th, 454-7468, www.beerknurd.com) in the Triangle will be giving away their special collectible St. Patrick’s Day glass this week. Wednesday, March 12, 7pm.
