Businesses in the Chinatown Center (10901 N. Lamar) celebrate their first anniversary with a Moon Festival this weekend. All the retail businesses and restaurants in the center will be open, and a full lineup of entertainment is planned, including dragon and lion dances, vocal and instrumental music, martial-arts demonstrations, and moon cakes. Eastside Cafe (2113 Manor Rd., 494-1464) and Edible Austin magazine invite early-rising gardeners to the first ever Crack of Dawn Garden Party benefiting Urban Roots. Bring your own gardening gloves, a gardening tool, and a lawn chair, and they’ll provide the garden, the compost, the plants, and a gardening seminar, plus coffee, water, and muffins while you work. Reservations are necessary, and a $20 donation to Urban Roots is suggested. Saturday, Sept. 22: workshop, 7:30-10:30am; party, 10:30am-noon.
