Smokey J’s is a quintessential Texas roadside barbecue joint with a smoking pit out back, window service, and a screened-in porch full of picnic tables for those who want to “eat in.” The victuals here are available by the sandwich, plate, and pound, and are of the serviceable, stick-to-your ribs variety. Both a liquor store and a 7-11 are close by, making an icy cold beer with your lunch both tempting and convenient.
