Hot, hawt heat at South Congress Hotel; seasonal festivities at Lala’s; and more afternoon bites.
Coast, the restaurant and bar filling the former Mulberry space (tears!), has set an opening date of Friday, July 1. The menu helmed by chef Ruston Richardson, will offer seasonal produce and seafood paired with a beverage program curated by Karina Lopez. On July 4, the restaurant will host a summer cookout with grand opening details to come.
In other opening news, Jinya Ramen Bar’s first Austin location at Domain Northside’s Rock Rose will throw open their doors on Monday, June 30*. The chain is known for their tonkotsu-style broth and for starring in Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” video (we made that last part up).
Good job, guys! The local food community raised over $15,000 at the recent Do for Dewberry event benefiting Dewberry Hills Farms, who have withstood damage in recent years from a tornado and flooding. If you missed the fundraiser, featuring Olamaie, Fabi + Rosi, Chicon, Juniper, we’ll allow you a moment to feel remorse before donating to the GoFundMe here.
It’s getting hot in herre, or something like that. South Congress Hotel will host another of their exceedingly ‘grammable ice cream socials from their Stephen F. Frostin’ truck this Sunday, June 26, 1-4pm featuring ice cream sandwiches like spicy gingersnap cookie with lemon ice cream and graham cracker with Key lime pie ice cream. Wearing a Nelly-style strip of tape under one eye is highly encouraged.
Lala’s is hosting a “Half Christmas Party” on Saturday, June 25 because why the hell not. Between 4pm and 2am, there will be a white elephant gift exchange, egg nog, a visit from Santa, and an ugly sweater contest. We personally will be wearing an ugly tank top. (See previous reference to early Aughts club banger.)
The newest happy hour in town comes from Brazilian steakhouse Estância Churrascaria. Starting Monday, June 27, they will be offering affordable meat samplings and other food specials plus a selection of $6.50 cocktails and deals on beer and wine.
*The date has been moved back from the originally scheduled July 27 opening date.
